Classes are ending, temperatures are rising, and you’re probably daydreaming about your next beach trip as we speak. Summer’s here and, ladies, which means there are a few additions and changes to be made to your winter skincare routine. Don’t worry though, we’ve talked to the professionals and discovered the must-have skin care products to maintain beautiful summer skin.
Because heat and humidity reap enough havoc on the skin, there’s no need to add oil into the mix—however, you must use sunscreen. In addition to your standard sunscreen, get yourself an oil-free sunscreen and apply it specifically to your face and other areas of your body that are prone to breakouts (e.g., chest, back, bum). Typically, oil-free options are available and easy to find as “face” products, but they can be applied anywhere on the skin. Of course, if you’re able to find an oil-free sunscreen for the entire body, that works, too!
SPF Lip Balm
The lips are one of the most delicate areas of skin on the face, yet we seldom think to protect them from the sun’s harmful rays. Grab yourself a lip balm or chapstick that’s fortified with an SPF to keep your pout hydrated. Just as with other lip products, these can—and should—be applied as often as needed.
While there are many pros to summer, one drawback is the greater likelihood of being bitten or stung by a bug. Of course, it’s wise to apply a bug repellent spray before going into a woodsy area during the day or out by the fire at night, but there are always instances where the bug repellent wears off or a specific bug just didn’t seem to be bothered. If you happen to get a sting or a bite and aren’t too keen about dealing with an itchy red spot for days-to-weeks, get yourself an anti-itch cream formulated with at least 1% hydrocortisone.
Facial mists make a perfect skin pick-me-up! Whether you spend your days outdoors in the sun or you find yourself inside enjoying the cool air conditioning, a finical mist is a great way to keep your skin, neck, and chest cool and hydrated. Rest assured, they don’t mess up makeup or make it look like you’ve poured a glass of water on your face. They simply mist and moisten your skin to keep it looking and feeling it’s best.
A great way to nourish your skin in the summer is by exfoliating rough skin before getting it wet. Simply use the scrub on dry skin to slough off any dead skin. Once you get in the shower be sure to rinse the scrub off completely and reveal smooth, healthy skin.
Aloe and Aspirin
We understand that even when you are diligent with your sunscreen, there is always that one or two few times that you end up with a sore burn. Aloe is great to soothe your red skin while also rehydrating it. In addition, aspirin will help ease the pain and swelling of the burn.
