Tips for Using Essential Oils

There are many who use essential oils on a day-to-day basis as it’s said that the oils—when used properly—can have a multitude of benefits ranging from being a mood-booster to helping to ease pain. However, it’s not as simple as buying the essential oils and using them in any random way. There are certain ways of using them that are not only ideal in terms of safety, but in regards to benefits as well. If you’re thinking of using essential oils, the following are some tips to help you get started with doing so.

Know What They Are Used For
Certain essential oils are linked to particular benefits. For example, lavender is ideal to use for relaxation purposes while peppermint is said to help improve focus and energy. Before you use any essential oil, find out what it’s used for, or if you have a particular reason you want to use essential oils, learn which one is best for that specific purpose.

Always Dilute Essential Oils
Before using essential oils, always dilute them first with a carrier oil, especially if you’re going to apply them to your skin. Not doing so could result in irritation, sensitization, and other issues, and it’s not something you want to take a chance with.

Consult With Your Dermatologist
Thinking of using essential oils on your skin? Don’t do so before speaking to your dermatologist, especially if you currently have (or had) any skin conditions or issues. You want to make sure that what you’re doing is safe and won’t cause you any problems.

Store Your Oils Properly
Essential oils can’t be left out, uncovered, or be in just any bottle. They should be stored in a cool, dry place, covered tightly, and kept in glass that’s dark in color, such as in small amber glass bottles.

Learn The Methods of Using Them
There are a multitude of ways that essential oils can be used. For example, they can be used in a diffuser, in the bath, or during a massage, but before you just mix together any random amounts of essential oils and carrier oils, learn what the proper measurements and recipes are. You never want to add too much or too little.

Research and Ask Ahead
You can never learn too much about essential oils if you’re planning on using them. Two of the best things you can do, especially when you’re first starting out, is to do your research and to ask questions, both of which should be done before you even use the essential oils. For example, if you’re not sure what the proper recipe is to use for creating a stress-reducing bath, either do your research and find the info you need or ask someone who has a substantial amount of experience using essential oils who can give you the right answer.

Take the time to learn about the essential oils and how to use them properly and you’re likely to reap the benefits while dealing with few issues.
