The Boho Makeup Look

Boho look

Contrary to popular belief, the bohemian look has been around for decades. The Bohemian, or Boho, style is a fabulous, effortless, modish look that is perfect for all sorts of occasions; the current festival season, beach outings with the girls, summer patio parties and even date night are occasions when the Boho style is perfectly acceptable. As if the versatile look isn’t already amazing enough, the best part about Boho style is that it is super easy to put together with very minimal effort required.

The perfect-for-every-season-and-occasion look includes: chic, yet lax hairstyles, which usually constitute loose braids or beach waves; Loose fitting, neutral colored outfits, which probably invented the term “I woke up like this;” Gaudy and hipster like accessories, the best of which are often found in your grandmother’s jewelry box or the local thrift store; And, finally, a makeup look where the term “less is more,” truly applies. This blog post is going to specifically focus on how you can achieve the perfect Boho makeup look in just a few simple steps!

The Boho makeup look is all about masking your flaws to give you a natural look, while slightly executing your assets. Now, as we mentioned in the above paragraph, with the Boho makeup look, less is more. Yes, you probably hear this statement all the time, (presumably) regarding tanning lotions and nighttime eye serums. With products such as the preceding, less is more is often times suggested to prevent any sort of unforeseen skin irritations or unsightly reactions. However, it is imperative that you adhere to the less is more motto when trying to achieve your Boho look, as the look really is meant to be a minimal and natural appearance.

To begin your boho makeup routine, you should strive for a natural glow. And how am I suppose to do that without my bronzer, blush, and highlighter? You are probably asking yourself. What you are going to do is be sure to continually care for your skin. This means you should be using a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type twice daily, exfoliating on a regular basis, and using a high-quality facial moisturizer day and night. If you’re already taking all these essential skin steps, bravo!

Since you have mastered healthy and natural skin, you are able to limit the amount of makeup that you use. However, none of us are perfect and we understand the flawless skin isn’t as easy as it seems. So go ahead and cover up any imperfections with a concealer that is best suited to your skin type and tone. Once you’ve done that, apply a light coverage liquid foundation, BB cream, or powder foundation over your entire face.

Just because you are going for a natural look doesn’t mean that you need to look totally washed out! Go ahead and apply a natural color blush, starting at the apples of your cheeks and swiping upwards to the outer eye area. If you naturally have a darker skin tone, go ahead and do the same with a bronzer. Just do not do it use both blush and bronzer for this look.

Many looks today call for a dramatic overdone eye makeup, but this is not the case with the Boho makeup look, remember ladies: less is more. Choose a shadow color that is similar to your natural skin tone, and has just the tiniest bit of shimmer to it. Opt for a thin swipe of brown eyeliner, and feel free to stick with black mascara, being sure to only apply one or two coats.

Finally, finish off your Boho makeup look with a coat of your favorite lip balm. If you feel you absolutely need some lip color, try a tinted hydrating chap stick to keep the Boho makeup look on pointe.
