Proper Makeup Removal

Woman cleansing face

It’s no secret that after a long day some women hit the sack with the full face of makeup, as they’ve neglected the important process of makeup removal. No one’s perfect – it happens more than anyone of us would like to admit! Then there’re those days (or nights?) when you get all dolled up, contouring like it’s nobody’s business and applying enough mascara to make your real lashes look like falsies, and you are adamant about washing all that product off before bed. Then when you’re patting your face dry you realize that your face towel is getting covered with the makeup that you thought you just washed off and rinsed down the drain. Oops?

We get it; makeup removal can defiantly feel like a chore from time to time, and proper makeup removal can seem like an obstacle! However, failing to do so means that all the imperfection masking ingredients – including dare I say, harsh chemicals – sit on your skin and soak into your pores. When this happens on a continual basis, our pores become clogged, our skin starts to look dull, and it ages faster. No one wants that! That’s why we are encouraging you to make it your goal to properly remove your makeup each and every night. Check out the tips below, and start tonight!

Just like makeup application isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, different makeup removal techniques work better for different people. As you read through the list understand that these are suggestions of ways to fully and properly remove makeup. You can use them all or just pick your favorites. If you’re going to bed with a makeup-free face, then you’re on the right track!

face steam

Steam
Whether you have a face steamer, lean over a sink full of hot water, or place a warm washcloth on your face, you’ll see awesome makeup removing results. As the steam makes contact with your face, it loosens all the product on your face (and even works to unclog your pores) so that your makeup basically slips off your face when you use a gentle, detergent-free cleanser.

Waterproof Makeup Removing Wipes
These are excellent to keep on your nightstand for those nights when you just can’t muster up the energy for your nighttime beauty routine. Even if you don’t typically wear waterproof makeup, the waterproof formulas are more effective at removing all kinds of makeup. To be sure you get everything off, it’s a good idea to also keep a bottle of liquid makeup remover handy; sometimes the wipes are only damp, but in reality, they should be next to soaked. Just apply some liquid remover to the already damp wipe for best results.

Micellar Water
This is one of the hottest drugstore products on the market at the moment. French women and makeup artists have sworn by its power for years now, and women all over the country are falling in love with its super powers. Basically, micellar water is formulated with micelles, which are nothing more than tiny balls of cleansing molecules that absorb dirt, grease, and grime. These micelles are suspended in soft water. The product looks almost identical to tap water in a kitchen glass, but feels nothing like the liquid from your faucet. It is formulated without harsh detergents, so while the micelles attract dirt and makeup, they don’t strip your skin of its natural oils like a typical foaming cleanser. Simply saturate a cotton pad and swipe it across your face. You’ll be amazed how much gunk comes off!
