Hot Nail Shapes

Woman getting a manicure at a nail salon

The nail industry has exploded over the past few decades! There are thousands, if not millions, of nail polish colors and hundreds of nail polish companies. Some women enjoy selecting one of the thousands of nail boutiques as their favorite, and going regularly for an acrylic or gel fill or polish change. Other women enjoy creating their own works of nail art on themselves. While it was once unheard of for the ladder to achieve the professional look of a salon manicure in the comfort of their own home, there are countless products on the market today that make at-home salon quality possible.

Whether you are amongst the group of women, which hold regular appointments at the salon downtown, or you identify with the ladies who prefer to scour the Internet for the best at home mani/ pedi tips, there is one thing that every single one of you have pondered in the past: whether or not to go with a new nail shape and if so, which one to choose.

Choosing a new nail shape can be a daunting task, which is the reason why many women ultimately stick with the same nail shape time and time again. With the variety of hot nail shapes out there, we think that everyone should switch up their nail style ever now and again, so to make this decision easier we have made a list of our favorite nail shapes (arranged in order from most round to most pointy) and told you a bit about them.

Round
The round shape is a super hot nail shape, most likely because it is the most natural looking.  Round shaped nails are ideal for those have chubby fingers and wish to make their hands appear more slender.

Oval
This hot nail shape is undeniably similar to the next, slightly shaper, nail shape on the list, the almond nail shape. The oval nail shape has the same tip as the round nail shape but is a bit longer. Additionally, this nail shape is ideal for those who have longer nails and are interested in maintaining a natural look.

Almond
The almond nail shape seems to be most popular for celebrities as well as clerical workers. This nail shape is wide at the nail bed and gradually becomes thinner as it ends with a soft peak, very much like the healthy nut that the shape is named after.

Coffin (a.k.a. Ballerina Slipper)
If there are any Kardashian/Jenner fans reading this, you are definitely familiar with the look of the coffin nail shape. Similar to almond, the coffin nail shape has a wider base and looks like it is about to come to a point. However, there is no peak, instead, where the peak would be the nail is filed to a square edge. Because of the natural build and durability of human nails, natural nails don’t hold this shape as well as fake nails do.

Square
This nail shape has made its way in and out of popularity. Very much like the name suggests, this hot nail shape is best described as perfect square, meaning that it does not have soft edges. This is a great nail shape for those of you who have short nails or naturally short nail beds, but aren’t fond of the round nail shape. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that many women find that this nail shape gives their fingers a stubby appearance.

Lipstick
This hot nail shape is still new to the scene. The lipstick shape is much more daring than the previous nail shapes listed, as it has two distinct sharp edges, one which is much shorter than the other, making your nail like the shape of a brand new lipstick.
